Day care center for emigrant's children
This project's main objective is to take care of emigrants’ children from the Chunchi Canton.
Program Description
The Chunchi Canton is located in the south of the Chimborazo Province. Almost 12,000 people live there and most of them are dedicated to agriculture or to the production of milk. This Canton has the highest migration rate of the Province. Families migrate, above all, to the USA and most recently to Spain. Their children suffer from various emotional problems; some of them have difficulties in learning, etc. More than 15 people work in the center, among them 12 teachers and a psychologist.
To go to Chunchi, you need to catch two buses. From Quito, you will have to travel 5 hours by bus - three hours to Riobamba and then two hours to Chunchi.
Volunteer Work Activities
The volunteer will work from Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day. During the weekend, the center may organize activities for the volunteers to go to Chimborazo, to the churches and museums of Riobamba, or at least give them the information necessary to get there. The project is close to the mountains where you can see birds, etc.
