This program is located in the sector La Alegría. It is part of the English project for education and protection of natural resources: “Young enabled for the future”, which is located in the zone of Aloag – Mejia, about one hour south of Quito. The valley is surrounded by mountains that are part of Cotopaxi National Park, the Ilinizas-Heart, the Pasochoa reserve and the Antisana.
This project offers volunteers the opportunity to be part of the rural life in the Andean zone. You will share great experiences with the indigenous communities and you will be able to improve the future of the children of Ecuador. In addition, you will be surrounded by nature and you will be able to enjoy the peace and tranquillity that the Andes Mountains offer. And of course, you will also have the opportunity to improve your Spanish.
Project Description:
This project focuses mainly on the teaching of the English language. The volunteers’ most important jobs are to make sure that the performance of the children in the school improves every day and to create interesting and educational English lessons that motivate the children to learn the language. The project works with three elementary schools located in Aloag within 2 to 12 km of the lodging. The schools usually have about 70 students (between 5 and 11 years old). The volunteers will work 8 hours daily, or they can ask to work part-time from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Project Activities:
* The volunteers will teach English and give computer lessons to the kids.
* The volunteers must prepare their own classes and materials with the guidance of the educational program manager.
* The volunteers are expected to work 8 hours daily, but they can ask to work only from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
* After class time, volunteers will work on different projects such as the maintenance of the schools (i.e. painting walls and fixing doors).
* Volunteers will also work in community projects such as: reforestation and creating consciousness about the protection of natural resources.

Volunteer Profile:
Volunteers must be enthusiastic, creative and willing to work with kids of rural communities. An intermediate knowledge of Spanish and basic knowledge of ecology and computer use is necessary. Volunteers must be at least 20 years old.

The project offers lodging in the sector La Alegría in a house with shared rooms and bathrooms, or the volunteers have the option to live with a family in the community. In addition, it also provides three meals a day, Monday through Friday (on Saturday and Sunday the food is not provided for the volunteers).
Free Time:
All the volunteers will have free time on weekends; in this time they will be able to plan their lessons, learn to ride horses and explore the surrounding area.
