Project Description
Children between the ages of 3 months and 4 years attend the nursery. We have 30 infants. Five people work in the nursery: three teachers, a cleaner, and a project coordinator. The volunteer will have the opportunity to practice his/her language skills and work in a pleasant environment with committed people in the field of education.
The project offers varying areas of work. The main objective is to help local people escape extreme poverty. Ongoing research into means of funding is essential to meet project costs.
Why the projects need volunteers
Looking after children from small communities is supremely important due to the lack of nurseries, teaching facilities and sufficiently trained staff. This means that many children are unable to complete their studies, or, having finished their studies find that the education was of a poor standard. The project therefore requires suitably trained volunteers.

| Responsibilities |
Volunteers will work in the nursery ensuring that infants are adequately cared for and mentally stimulated. Volunteers will also be required to participate in daily recreational activities. |

Experience working with children is required, e.g. in summer camps. Men and women who apply should be between the ages of 20 and 40 years. |

Please note
The “Guajira” Nursery is situated 2850 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Cayambe Volcano. People live in harmony with nature. The small community specializes in milk production and its derivative products as well as the exportation of roses.
What skills do volunteers need?
Volunteers should:
• Have a love of children and the patience to work with children of pre-school age.
• Be team-oriented and have the ability to show leadership skills.
• Have an intermediate level of Spanish.
This project requires flexibility on the part of volunteers and is open to whoever applies, giving preference to those who have studied education and/or have work experience with pre-school infants and children. Responsibilities carried out will depend on the level of experience of individual volunteers, his/her skills and the positions available at the time.

Steps to follow
Once you have registered...
- Once we receive your first email we will immediately contact you to give you general information about us and our projects.
- Select the project in which you would like to participate.
- Send your CV.
- Participate in an interview.
- You will receive an email confirming your participation and we will prepare for your trip to Ecuador.
- You should fill out the documents that the Ecuador Volunteer Foundation sends you as part of the registration process.
After you have been selected as a volunteer...
- Get your flight tickets.
- Get travel insurance for the time that you will participate in our projects.
- Obtain your Police Record or Police Disclosure.
- Send us the documents from the Ecuador Volunteer Foundation, filled out completely.
- Verify that you have gotten the necessary vaccines, such as Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A & B, Diphtheria, Typhoid. We recommend getting the yellow fever vaccine and bringing malaria pills as a precaution.
- Get a medical certificate from your doctor.
- Fill out the Final Form that is on our website.
- If the volunteer is not a Spanish speaker, she/he must plan to take a Spanish course in Quito before entering in the project.
- Take a Spanish exam to check your knowledge of the language.
- Check if you need a visa to enter Ecuador.
