Project Description


This is an educational center that provides children from the ages of 2 to 25 years old with rehabilitation and educational services.  These children often come from dysfunctional homes where families have few economic means for betterment.  The center offers education to children from preschool age up until the fifth grade of primary school for other youngs.  Tailored education, prevocational workshops, routine care and medical care services are also provided.

There are currently 15 special needs children and young resident in the “Casa Hogar” (“Home from Home”) or orphanage.  These children are afforded round-the-clock protection and care and are dispensed health, nutrition, rehabilitation, and routine or tailored education services with immense love and affection.

Volunteer work with elderly people

Project Description


The nursing home looks after approximately 200 elderly people with a range of problems such as senile dementia, disability, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.
The home provides a loving and caring environment for the elderly where they can live in peace and harmony and receive the medical attention, physiotherapy, psychological and social care that they need.  The home has a staff of 25, among who are doctors, nurses, kitchen and cleaning personnel.  

The majority of elderly residents suffer from arthritis, back pain, and other debilitating physical conditions which require care.

Teach English in South America

Project Description


The Teaching English voluntary project takes place in several deprived and poorly resourced schools located in the south and central parts of Quito, giving classes to 178 primary school children aged between 5 and 12 years.

 

Currently, there is only one teacher to cover these areas and level of education, hence the importance of recruiting volunteers in the education sector.

Volunteer work in Galapagos Islands

Project Description


This project has several objectives, one of the priorities being to improve the level of English of children aged between 5 and 12 years, with the aim of facilitating their communication with tourists to the islands; the Galapagos Islands being one of the principal tourist attractions of Ecuador.

Volunteers help teach, guide and assist children between the first and seventh grades of primary education. The schools currently have an average of 30 children per class with more than three classroom per level, but only two English teachers, one per school. Hence, the real need for volunteers to assist with English instruction.

Volunteering with adolescents

Project Description


This project has been set up with the help and cooperation of mothers to ensure their children are looked after whilst parents are out working.  The children who attend the center are from low-income families and many live solely with their mothers.

The project’s main objective is to provide assistance to children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 14 years who attend the center after school.  Of fundamental importance is the supervision and care of the 60 young people who attend the center, helping them with homework, health concerns, diet and, especially, recreation.
