Project Description
The volunteer will be based in a settlement located 2900 meters above sea level and with a temperate climate. The settlement has a hostel, which is currently undergoing renovation. Therefore, assistance is needed to help with this process. Volunteers are needed to help build paths and tracks for hikers and promote tourism in the area.
The project’s main objective is to find volunteers capable and eager to teach in the local community college as well as to primary and secondary school pupils. Help is also required in the local hostel ‘Llullu Llama’. Around 200 people live in the community of Isinlivi. The primary school has approximately 118 children whilst the secondary around 144. Many of the pupils come from Isinlivi whilst others hail from surrounding villages.
In local schools, classes are given in the morning. Volunteers are required to assist teachers in giving classes in English, IT, math, geography, and other subjects. During the afternoons, volunteers normally prepare for the next day’s classes. Afterwhich, he/she can lend assistance in the hostel’s kitchen, serve as a guide to hikers, help with gardening, painting, making signposts, and with various other tasks that crop up.
Why the projects need volunteers
Due to large class sizes, the school and college need volunteers to help and assist teachers. One of the most important areas in which children need assistance is in English and IT. There is no-one who speaks English in the settlement and IT teachers need support.
