Volunteering in indigeous community

Project Description

The volunteer will be based in a settlement located 2900 meters above sea level and with a temperate climate. The settlement has a hostel, which is currently undergoing renovation.  Therefore, assistance is needed to help with this process.  Volunteers are needed to help build paths and tracks for hikers and promote tourism in the area.

The project’s main objective is to find volunteers capable and eager to teach in the local community college as well as to primary and secondary school pupils.  Help is also required in the local hostel ‘Llullu Llama’. Around 200 people live in the community of Isinlivi.  The primary school has approximately 118 children whilst the secondary around 144.  Many of the pupils come from Isinlivi whilst others hail from surrounding villages.

Reconstruction houses in the jungle PDF Print E-mail

Reconstruction project abroad

Project Description

The project is located in Santa Ana, an indigenous community of scarce resources.  Families live in houses that they themselves have built.  The houses are made of bamboo or wood with thatched roofs or laminated aluminium and some are without basic amenities such as electricity, water or gas for cooking.  Some of the families live in houses with only two rooms among which up to 10 people share.

The aim of the project is to help local families make the best use of their houses through renovation, revampment or enlargment.  Some of the houses are in a bad condition but just require maintenance, while others simply lack sufficient space for the family to live adequately.  Renovation of the house is funded by the volunteer with part of the money paid to participate on the project going towards building materials for the house.
