Project Description
This project focuses on three important aspects in which the volunteer may be committed to good environmental practices and respect for environment, with a vision of commitment.
Co participatory Learning: The volunteers will be co-participant with the “New Hope Artisan Farming Association” (Asociación Agropecuaria Artesanal Nueva Esperanza); which will have the opportunity to promote a environmental awareness among members of the community.
Practices and initiatives: The knowledge gained is put into practice on organic farms / eco tourist and community schools in Puerto Quito.
Tourism Development Projects and/or Community Development Projects: Thinking of our volunteers develop their own projects as an initiative, it is establishing the project development period in which it is intended that the people involved generate new options of micro companies of community development and intervention of multicultural experiences.
Why the projects need volunteers
It is necessary to encourage initiatives to promote food sovereignty, land rehabilitation, water care, environmental protection, and in the cultural field, we have developed support networks for various cultural processes. By this way volunteers become a vital tool to increase environmental awareness.

FIRST WEEK: AGROECOLOGY:• Introductory talk about the project of “New Hope Artisan Farming Association” (Asociación Agropecuaria Artesanal Nueva Esperanza)• Organic process and hand made cocoa • Preparing home made jams • Honey process preparing --- SECOND WEEK: FAIR TRADE • Introductory talk on trading and the approach to Fair Trade that is given at Puerto Quito by the "New Hope Agricultural Association". • Inventory of products offered by the association and make a marketing plan to market these products in the bio-ecological fairs or exhibitions --- THIRD WEEK: ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN • Introductory talk about the reality of environmental education in communities • Environmental education workshops in schools with the support of ecological games to facilitate the children learning • Visit Agro-Ecology project with children of the community --- FOURTH WEEK: ECOTOURISM • Introductory talk about tourism in the area and the approach of "New Hope Agricultural Association" • Make signage on the farms focused on tourism • Make a tourism script and translation • Cook a typical dish * For volunteers who choose to develop a new project: It will be focused on the volunteers interests based on the volunteer activities during the four weeks in our general volunteer program. |

| Prerequisities |
- Minimum age: 18 years old - Intermediate Spanish level (Ecuador Volunteer offer Spanish courses to improve the language skills) - The most important thing is to have great interest in the nature conservation, like outdoor work, simple living, healthy eating and activities related to human development. |
What is included?
| Accommodation |
- The Accommodation is being offered by community families in shared rooms. The arrangement of the rooms is provided by family members and once a week is changing sheets, but the volunteer can also help in that area. Bathrooms are shared and are located inside the house, the water supply through pipes and the shower has no hot water. The volunteers should wash their clothes, the advantage is that the weather is warm and favors for drying clothes faster.

| Food |
- The eating time is shared with family members; the Project cost covers threee meals (breackfast, lunch and dinner). Vegetarians apply, but no people with diabetes. The type of breakfast is usually bread, eggs, milk and fruit and makes it is served at 07:00 am. Lunch is soup, rice (main course), vegetables, fruit and it is served at 13:00 pm. Dinner consists of rice with vegetables and grains, it is at 18:00 pm. The feeding system is traditional, based on the area customs, where the project is located. It is important to explain that the water in the project should be boiled before to drink it.

- A facility at the organization office for making local calls.
- Receiving of faxes.
- Informative visitor guide with information on recreational activities.
- Certificate of successful completion as volunteer.

Please note
Birds are one of the main natural resources that Puerto Quito has, and its importance for being in the ecological way of “Chocó” known for being considered a Hotspot, the climatic diversity of the rainforest and a large ecosystem biodiversity, make this area full of wealth, ideal for implementing volunteer projects.

No experience is required, but volunteers should have:

Steps to follow
When you have booked...
- Once we receive your first email we will immediately contact you to give you general information about us and projects.
- Select the project where you would like to participate.
- Send your CV.
- Participate in an interview.
- You will receive an email about confirmation of your participation and we will prepare for your trip to Ecuador.
- You should fill out certain documents of the Ecuador Volunteer Foundation, which we will send you opportunely.
After you have been selected as a volunteer...
- Get your flight tickets.
- Get travel insurance for the time that you will participate in our projects.
- Get your Police Check or Police Disclosure.
- Send us the documents of the Ecuador Volunteer Foundation filled out with the pertinent information.
- Verify that you got certain vaccines as Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A & B, Diphtheria, Typhoid. We recommend getting the yellow fever vaccine and malaria pills as a precaution.
- Get a medical certificate.
- Fill out the Final Form that is on our website.
- In the case that the volunteer is not a Hispanic speaker she/he must plan a Spanish course before entering in the project.
- Give an exam in Spanish to check your knowledge in the language.
- Check if you need a visa to enter in the country.
