ACCOMMODATION SYSTEM
Our organization offers you information about some alternatives of accommodation. The accomodation that volunteer receives is subject to the type of project that the volunteer applies:
Free Projects
The programs located in the section “Free Projects” offer free accommodation and food for the volunteers during the time that they are volunteering.
The type of accommodation and alimentation is subject directly to what exactly the program can offer depending on what condition it is in, so it is important that the volunteer be able to adapt to our culture, customs and way of life. Ecuador Volunteer will give the the volunteer as much support as is necessary and all the information corresponding to each of the projects as well.
Low Cost Projects
These projects are classified as “Projects of Low Cost” because they require that the volunteer covers the cost of all the alimentation and lodging, although there are some projects that offer to 2 daily meals to the volunteer according to the resousces available to the project during the period of collaboration. In the section “Low Cost Projects” you will find different opportunities for volunteer work in several projects with different systems of accommodation that are explained here:
*System of Lodging in Social and Educative Projects*
The volunteers who apply to the social or educative projects located in the city of Quito will be able to choose if they would like to live with an Ecuadorian family or if they would like to live in a Volunteer Hostel.
-Ecuadorian families-
If the volunteer desires security, comfort, company, in-depth knowledge of the culture, and the opportunity to share a life with the Ecuadorian people, the best option is to live with a host family. Living with a host family will offer one the chance be an integral part of an Ecuadorian family, and additionally the volunteer will receive three daily meals during their stay with the family. The volunteer will also have the opportunity to live in a residential sector.
In addition, by choosing this system of accommodation, volunteers will help the families economically, the majority of which do not have many economic resources and have been dramatically affected by the high cost of living and the low income that they recieve.
Monthly Cost: 450 USD
-Hostel-
If the volunteer would like to live in a sector that is more tourist-friendly, interact with other foreigners, be able to cook, and be able to coexist with other volunteers and tourists, staying in a hostel would be a good option. A hostel presents two alternatives of lodging; private or shared rooms. Apart from one´s own room, hostels include a kitchen where the volunteers can prepare their own food, a social dining room, social areas, shared bathrooms and a small yard.
In is important that the volunteer understands that the cost of food must be covered by the volunteer. Located near the hostels that our organization recommends are several restaurants, bars, cyber cafes and other services directed towards the tourist population. The hostel does not include alimentation or laundry services. The payment for this service is made directly to the hostel.
Approximated Monthly cost:
Shared Rooms: 240 USD to 290 USD
Private Room: 300 USD to 450 USD
*System of Lodging in Communitarian Projects*
The communitarian projects are located in very rural parts of country and require that the volunteer live with a family in the community. It is important that one knows that the way of life for the families in these small, rural communities is very different in relation to our style of life.
Most of the volunteers do not recieve a private room because they would rather share it with another member of the family. Coexisting in a foreign community is an enriching experience because it allows one to descover an abundance of knowledge about the culture and it´s people.
In addition, lodging in communitarian families will help the families economically since the condition of life in communities such as these is very poor. The cost of the communitarian projects varies according to the type of project and covers the cost of food for each volunteer. The payment for this service is made directly to the community.
Approximated Monthly Cost
Communitarian Projects: 250 USD to 360 USD
* System of Lodging in Ecological Projects

While the volunteer is participating in the project and staying in the house provided they must be able to adjust to the way of life in the house and also help by cleaning their room and the social areas of the house. The alimentation service consists of three daily meals and it is from Monday to Friday. During the weekend the volunteers generally prepare their own meals.
