Fundraising FAQs

How do I make my fundraiser more successful?

Making your fundraiser more successful is fun. Communication is the key! Tell families, friends, family why you’re raising money. Make signs and hold them up at the student drop off/pick up areas. Start a telephone tree to leave messages for all the people and friends and inspire them to sell more. Give people goals. For example, if every family sells 15 items you will net money for new computers and supplies.

Bake cookies and hand them out to parents on the sale start day. We will donate cookie dough to bake!

Send people notes several times during the sale to remind them. Make sure the friends, students, family know about the cool prizes they could win - maybe have an example of the top prize in the school office or public boards to tempt them.

Use your imagination or contact us. We have tons of ideas

How can I ask my friends and family for money?

To cross the wall of asking people for money you can start by explaining to people your desire to effect positive change by becoming a volunteer in Ecuador. Remember, you are not asking for money for a vacation or fun trip, rather you are asking for a contribution to do volunteer work overseas, gain inside knowledge of another culture and make a difference in the world changing lives.
Some alternatives to fundraising directly for money include collecting non-monetary items or offering services in return for donations. For example, you can ask for donations a past fundraiser raised a lot of money by holding a yard sale and asking friends and family to donate things they would otherwise throw out. Many volunteers choose to provide services such as washing cars or cleaning yards in return for donations.

How can I make a donation?

We accept donations made by cash, cheque, bank transfer and all major credit cards.  You can make a donation:
In person by visiting in Quito, Yanez Pinzon N25-106 y Av. Colon. Mariscal

Can I start fundraising before I enroll in a program?

It is up to you if you want to start fundraising before you enroll in a program and we do recommend you start planning your fundraising efforts as early as possible. An initial deposit (US$300) is required to enroll in a Ecuador Volunteer which is then applied to your application fee. If you have any further questions about fundraising before you enroll, please feel free to contact us.

How do I fundraise for my deposit and what do I do once I reach the deposit goal?

In order to fundraise for your initial $300 enrollment deposit, you must contact a coordinator to set up a fundraising account. A Communication Coordinator will answer all the questions that you could have about the process and will then assign you an account.

Can friends or family members make a donation to Ecuador Volunteer in my name?

Yes. These donations can be made directly to Ecuador Volunteer Foundation by calling 593-2-2557749, by mailing a check to Ecuador Volunteer office (visit www.ecuadorvolunteer.org for extra information). Please ask friends and family members to indicate that their donation is in your name.

Can the Ecuador Volunteer assist in covering any costs associated with my event?

Unfortunately, Ecuador Volunteer does not have the funds to pay any costs associated with offline events.

I have sponsors that would like to donate materials or resources for me to bring with me on my volunteer program. Is that allowed?

Yes, that is definitely allowed.  That could be really useful but this mostly will depend on the kind of project that you will work with because some could really need some materials or supplies and other not. You can contact our coordinator and check if there is a list of items that you can get and could be useful. We consider that is better to give a percent of money to buy the things in the country (Ecuador) because the taxes to import are really high.

Can I use the Ecuador Volunteer logo on materials that I make for my fundraising events (such as raffle tickets, t-shirts etc.)?

Of course yes! We encourage you to use our logo and slogan from your fundraising events. Also, print those on your fundraising flyers or posters.
